Many of you know that I appealed my doctor stating he would not give me a referral to see an endocrinologist because “your numbers are fine.” What about the many lows? 59 episodes in 90 days!!! “But your numbers are fine.”

Last Thursday I got word from Humana that my appeal had been overturned, and I was granted a referral & authorization to go see an endocrinologist. Yesterday I called the doctor’s office and was told “unless you make a follow up appointment and stay compliant with our office policies, we will not be your doctor anymore. Great I don’t want you as my doctor. I want to see an endocrinologist.

I then asked if I could get a copy of my last two lab tests and what endocrinologist do they refer patients to. Again I was told, Dr K is not providing you with any information because you do not have a scheduled appointment. Her final comment was “it doesn’t matter what the appeal said – he is not approving it.

So today I checked to see what endocrinologist would be in network. I called the first one and she referred her to me a clinic in Tampa. I called, the gal was very friendly and nice…she said she probably couldn’t get me in before the end of February. Well if that’s the earliest okay, then while she was talking to me another gal in the office said “hey we just got a cancellation for tomorrow at 10 – does she want it?” YES!!! I will take it!!! So I gave her the information I had – the reference # and the authorization number. She said come 15 minutes early, fast so they can do some blood work and bring any info I have. Whoo hoo!! I have an appointment tomorrow, not next week, not next month, not in February but tomorrow!!!! I am beyond excited. I went in and talked to my supervisor and all is well with me being gone for most of the day tomorrow.

I have gathered all the info I can find, wish I could find the letter that quoted the doctor for why he would not give me a referral…I will look another couple of places but if I can’t find it, I’m not going to worry about it.

Only Poppa God could make an appointment be available in less than 24 hours when I was originally being told it could be two and a half months down the road. Thank you Poppa God for providing for me in an unexpected way!!!
