A Good Weekend

Do you follow the normal calendar and consider Saturday and Sunday as your “weekend?” Our weekend runs from Thursday afternoons to Sunday about 3:30p.

We had a good weekend…Thursday started early for Ron as we were participating in a safety drill for the Pasco County School District where Alexander attends summer day camp.

The scenario was something happened and the children had to be transported from their school to a safe zone. Before the exercise I had asked Alex “should I be the concerned, low key Grammy or the overly excited, crazy Grammy.” His reply was to say “Oh Grammy!” LOL

So after just a couple of hours of sleep for Ron we headed over to Wiregrass Sports Center. It is a beautiful complex. Christopher and Treyson attended basketball camp there just a few weeks back. As we turned into the parking lot, where lots of sheriff deputies were parked, directing traffic, blocking certain roads we were asked what we were doing there. Ron replied…to be reunited with our grandson/the school safety drill. We were told “welcome and thank you!”

The complex was very busy as not only the drill was going on, there was a volleyball camp and cheer competition going on. Can you say busy and crowded and did I say it was hot!!! This past week we have had quite a few days of Extreme Heat index! We parked, found where we were supposed to go. Ron was told he needed to wait in the truck so as he walked back I was welcomed and told, “Oh no, we need your hubby here too.” So a quick phone call and Ron returned (he had almost gotten to the truck which was parked about 8 lanes over😀. Needless to say he was getting his exercise for the day!

There was some confusion but once the names were figured out (we each had a “special name” for the exercise. We were ushered into the main building, gave our name and our grandson’s name. First time, we met our grandson Carson Hall. He was excited to see us but seemed as confused as us LOL.

Our second reunification went much smoother. I had a new name “Spirit Bell” – thought my mom must have been a 70’s child 🤣. We gave our names and after a couple of calls we met with grandson “Hartley Bell.” He was laughing, gave us each hugs, told the lady checking on the reunification that he felt safe to go with us ~ thank goodness, this Grammy would have cried if he had said he was scared. Everyone was dismissed and we headed home for a quick nap for Ron.

In the afternoon we had our appointment follow ups with Dr. Charity. My blood sugar was 7.5 – she was pleased with that. Decided that. my leg issues are my muscles tightening up. I need to do stretching exercises and I am so thankful I still have the stretch bands that Donna blessed me with when we were in Kentucky or was it South Carolina ~ but hey, I still have them and I knew where they were!!! Stored safely in the Pig butter dish LOL. She ordered my CGM and it should be here in about two weeks. Ron found out he is still dealing with his sleep apnea, not as severe as it used to be but his new CPAP will also be here in the next couple of weeks. She increased Ron’s Gabapentin for his leg cramps and shooting pain…at 300mg dose it appears to be working so she increased it to 600 mg dose. This week he has increased to 450 mg dose and next he will increase to the 600 mg dose next week – needs to be added gradually.

We then headed to Wesley Chapel to pick up some groceries from a friend and another friend’s home to get Ron’s Air Force hat – it had been hiding there for over a month!! He was so happy to bring it home!!!

Friday we both went swimming and then brought grandson, Christopher home with us. The heat index was 115° so we decided to continue binge watching OuterBanks and put the yard work off till Saturday morning. We enjoy our “movie time” – it reminds me of binge watching NCIS with our foster daughter, April when we lived in Yoakum. We chat a lot, eat lots of popcorn and just kick back and relax.

Saturday Ron and Christopher were up early. Together they got the yard weedeated, the deck built for our new storage shed (should be here this coming Wednesday). I was able to sleep in and when I got out of bed just after 9:00a I made a potato, egg, sausage & cheese omelette for breakfast. Ron and Christopher finished up and then we watched a couple more episodes of OuterBanks ~ you can watch it on Netflix! We then headed back to Chris’ home…he took a nap and we spent time swimming with Alex in the pool.

I like to say we were multi-tasking…while we were swimming and playing the laundry was being washed and dried (thank you B & D for letting us do our weekly laundry at your place ~ we appreciate it and you too!!!)

When the storm clouds rolled in we got out of the pool. We each took a nap and then Grammy played Dutch Blitz with Brandon and Alexander.

We ended the evening with a delicious dinner of baked chicken breasts, lemon sauced asparagus and Texas toast ~ all I can say is YUMMY!!!

Sunday dawned early ~ 6:00a as Ron and I headed to Camp Winona to pick up Treyson from a week of camp.

the drive there was nice and uneventful, had a few rain drops but nothing to write home about. We found Treyson ~ can you? Hint he is a cute blond wearing a blue shirt!

The drive back to Land O Lakes included lots of dark clouds, loud thunder and big raindrops! We were back at B & D’s place by 12:30 and then we headed home for a nap for Ron. Ron got up just before three and we headed over to Dan & Lynda’s (Danalyn’s parents) for a great Sunday afternoon family dinner. We had roast beef, mashed potatoes & gravy, roasted carrots, green salad and cheesy bread ~ again another YUMMY meal and great fellowship!

And just like that our weekend was over and Ron returned to work!
